Rose, thank you so much for reflecting on my post here. I think I mentioned to you that there’s so much about the StrongBlackWoman trope that I wanted to incorporate, but felt too overwhelming for this one. Very very cathartic that you were able to build this onto where I started.
And i’m not done yet is a poem I’ll hold close — thanks for introducing it to me.
You're so welcome, Zefan! I was trying so hard not to "Essay" here since I am taking a break from sharing longform on here....but I feel there is so much more to say. Thank you for providing these words as a hopeful thread in this season!
Thank you for reading Shondra. I am also tired of the same...my goodness. Wishing you a gentle landing as you sift out those unnecessary urgencies and find what your soul longs for!
Thank you for sharing Ocean Vuong's work. Truly one of my favorites. Did you happen to see the interview he did on City Arts and Lectures? It was such a commentary on time and pace especially as it relates to the creative process. Listening felt like being brought into sanity. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y_Niz0pnWO8
Thank you so much for this read, Rose. This time of year feels so fitting for us to rediscover our lives and remember our thirst for it. My first tattoo is the song title/lyrics “Back in My Body” by Maggie Rogers. It’s a song that continuously spoke to me. Reminding me that I can come back to myself, that home is anywhere I exist — it now serves as a permanent reminder :) after a long, rough winter, I’ve been listening to it quite a bit and touch the back of my arm where that tattoo lives. I look forward to having this piece as another reminder that I deeply love this life and want to live it ❤️

Releasing the urgencies that aren’t mine- has been my vibe the past few months. I’m tired of being on high alert all the time. Great post, Rose.

Thank you . You too, Rose

Ooo I’ll have to check this out, thank you for sharing it!
I'm so jealous you haven't seen it yet. It's such a treat.
